Hawaii Kaiser workers in some classifications are paid up to 25% less than their counterparts in California performing the same work. In a 2024 survey by Local 5 of nearly 800 out of 2,000 Kaiser workers represented by Local 5, 84% of workers reported that they have thought about moving away because of Hawaii’s high cost of living.
“Kaiser can do better for its workers. It feels like a slap in the face that Kaiser is paying someone in California nearly $10 more an hour for doing the same work, while my family struggles to put food on the table. We take care of our patients, Kaiser should take care of us too.”
